The Integration of Celestia into Arbitrum’s Software Stacks
The Arbitrum Foundation has announced that Celestia, a modular data availability network, will be integrated into Arbitrum’s software stacks known as Orbit and Nitro. This integration, which will occur after Celestia’s mainnet launch, will provide developers with the option to publish data to Celestia in addition to the existing Arbitrum One and Nova blockchains.
This move indicates that Celestia’s data availability proofs will be incorporated into Arbitrum’s Layer 2 ecosystem. As one of the leading Layer 2 scaling solutions on Ethereum, Arbitrum aims to enhance the throughput and efficiency of Ethereum-based applications.
Diversifying Developer Tooling for Data Costs Reduction
The integration with Celestia, a modular consensus and data network, aims to diversify developer tooling in reducing data costs for apps. Recently, Celestia Labs introduced Blobstream, which expands Celestia’s data availability layer to Ethereum. Blobstream helps deliver the necessary data throughput for numerous rollups without compromising security for end-users.
Data availability is crucial in Layer 2 technologies that rely on rollups. For rollups to be authenticated, all network participants must access the base transaction data stored off-chain securely.
Arbitrum Data Availability Expansion
The Arbitrum Foundation plans to deploy Celestia’s Blobstream into Arbitrum-based Layer 2s through the Orbit software stack. Elias Abi Daoud, community lead at the Arbitrum Foundation, expressed excitement about this integration and the expanding range of supported data availability options beyond Ethereum.
This integration with Celestia also marks the first external contribution to the Arbitrum Orbit protocol layer. Celestia is approaching its mainnet launch in the coming weeks and has recently announced an airdrop of 60 million of its native token, Tia, to developers and on-chain addresses on Ethereum rollups, Cosmos Hub, and Osmosis.
Hot Take: Enhancing Ethereum’s Layer 2 Scalability with Celestia
The integration of Celestia into Arbitrum’s software stacks is a significant step in enhancing the scalability of Ethereum’s Layer 2 solutions. By incorporating Celestia’s modular data availability network, developers will have more options for publishing data while reducing costs. This integration expands the range of supported data availability options and contributes to the growth of a diverse network of developers leveraging this technology.
