Currently, users have to download separate wallets for each blockchain, leading to fragmentation on Magic Eden. The initial version of the wallet will be compatible with Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon. It will be self-custodied, meaning users will have full control over their crypto assets and will need to secure a seed phrase. Magic Eden CEO Jack Lu believes that holding your own crypto and NFTs aligns with the ethos of Web3.
Offering a User-Friendly Cross-Chain Solution
Magic Eden’s wallet aims to provide a more user-friendly cross-chain solution for crypto enthusiasts. Users can avoid bridging by conducting cross-chain token swaps through the wallet. Lu acknowledges the issues that arise from having multiple wallets installed and ensures that Magic Eden’s wallet won’t conflict with others. The wallet will also allow users to buy crypto with fiat currency through MoonPay integration and offer features such as cross-chain portfolio tracking and simultaneous connection to multiple blockchains.
Aiming for a Seamless Onboarding Experience
While Magic Eden currently emphasizes self-custody and seed phrases, Lu sees the potential for seamless implementations like email login without sacrificing security. The team is exploring exciting technologies to enhance the onboarding experience for mainstream users. The wallet will first launch for Google Chrome but plans to expand to Safari and develop a mobile app in the future.
