Consensys Introduces MetaMask Snaps for Customizations
Consensys, the Ethereum blockchain developer and creator of MetaMask crypto wallet, has announced the release of “MetaMask Snaps.” This new feature allows users to personalize their browser extension by choosing from a range of app-like or add-on customizations.
Previously, MetaMask users were limited to features built solely by MetaMask developers. However, with MetaMask Snaps, users can now select from a wider variety of options beyond the MetaMask ecosystem.
The public launch of MetaMask Snaps offers 34 customizable options. These include improved transaction insights, interoperability with non-EVM blockchains, and notifications for decentralized applications in MetaMask accounts.
For instance, Solflare, a Solana-focused wallet provider, is introducing “Solana Snaps” that enable MetaMask users to manage their Solana holdings directly within MetaMask.
MetaMask Snaps are permissionless, meaning they don’t require approval from MetaMask. Developers retain ownership of their creations and code.
