Streamr Announces Start of Testnet 2 for Incentivized Data Broadcasting Network

Zug, Switzerland, December 21st, 2023 – Following the success of Testnet 1, Streamr is thrilled to reveal the launch of Testnet 2. This second incentivized testnet, running from December 21st to January 8th, 2024, offers a reward pool of 1.5 million DATA tokens (approximately $104k USD) for node Operators to bootstrap a decentralized data broadcast network.

Key Dates and Rewards

  • Testnet 1: December 5th – December 12th (Reward Pool: 1 Million DATA, $69k)
  • Testnet 2: December 21st – January 8th (Reward Pool: 1.5 Million DATA, $104k)
  • Testnet 3: January 15th – January 29th (Reward Pool: 2.5 Million DATA, $173k)
  • Streamr 1.0 Official Release: February 2024

How to Participate in Testnet 2

To earn a share of the DATA rewards, participants can download the latest version of the Streamr Node and become an Operator or delegate their DATA tokens to a trusted Operator. Operators ensure proper message forwarding to other nodes, while Delegators provide liquidity in the form of DATA tokens.

Stream Sponsorships and Roles

Stream Sponsorships are smart contracts that release funds to Operators over time. The amount of DATA tokens staked on a Sponsorship determines the Operator’s share of the token flow. To learn more about the roles in the Streamr Network, read this blog.

Testnet 2 Details

Testnet 2 will be funded with 1.5 million DATA tokens ($104k). Stream Sponsorships will be active until the end of Testnet 2, and Operator penalties will remain low.

The 1.0 milestone enables Streamr to explore new use cases, including enhancing the data broadcasting capability of Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePINs), providing reliable data access for AI, and decentralized video streaming.
