Introducing Trezor's Africa Education Initiative: Empowering with Bitcoineta Trip Funding

Trezor Launches Educational Initiative in Africa

Trezor, a hardware cryptocurrency wallet firm, has announced the launch of the Trezor Academy in Africa. The educational program aims to spread Bitcoin knowledge across the continent, providing in-person meetups led by local experts and offering a platform for individuals to learn about Bitcoin’s potential.

The pilot program of the Trezor Academy was initially launched in 2023 and has been active in countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Uganda, Burundi, and Kenya. In 2024, Trezor plans to expand its academies to more than ten new African countries and educate additional local educators on Bitcoin.

According to Trezor CEO Matej Zak, Bitcoin adoption is particularly relevant in Africa due to its various benefits for local initiatives like payment schemes, microfinancing, and savings.

Bitcoineta: Spreading Awareness Across Africa

As part of their education program in Africa, Trezor also supports Bitcoineta, a Bitcoin-themed car dedicated to raising awareness about Bitcoin in West African regions such as Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. Originally launched in 2018 by non-profits Bitcoin Argentina and Bitcoin Americana, the campaign aims to bring the Bitcoin message to rural communities and schools across the Economic Community of West African States.

The African Bitcoineta road trip began on December 1st and will be documented through video blogs and other media channels. The progress of the tour will be shared via the official Bitcoineta X account on social media.

Trezor Academy: Made Possible by the Bitcoin Community

The funding for the Trezor Academy has been made possible by the support of the Bitcoin community. Trezor allocated 21 euros from each sale of their limited edition, Bitcoin-only version of the Trezor Safe 3 hardware wallet, launched in October 2023.

By launching the Trezor Academy and supporting Bitcoineta, Trezor aims to promote Bitcoin education and awareness in Africa and empower local individuals with the knowledge of Bitcoin’s potential.
