Worldcoin Launches Community Grants Program with Three-Tiered Approach
The Worldcoin Foundation has introduced its community grants program, Wave0, which aims to provide support and funding for various community projects. The program consists of three grant tracks: community grants, project grants, and open track grants. Each track caters to different project scales and scopes.
Community Grants
Community grants focus on smaller-scale initiatives such as events, sponsorships, and hackathon projects. The maximum grant amount for this track is 5,000 WLD tokens.
Project Grants
Project grants target larger-scale initiatives and offer a higher grant amount of up to 25,000 WLD tokens.
Open Track Grants
The open track grants have no predefined budget limit and are suitable for the largest grant projects.
Following the departure and subsequent return of Sam Altman, a notable backer of Worldcoin, the value of the WLD token experienced a decline of 3% against the U.S. dollar. Altman, who is now reinstated as the CEO of Openai, played a crucial role in the creation and development of Worldcoin through his involvement with Tools for Humanity.
Worldcoin also highlighted the importance of decentralization and its “Worldcoin Tech Tree.” Currently, there are 980,401 unique wallets holding the WLD token, but the top 100 wallets own 90.68% of the token supply.
Grant Application and Timeline
Individuals or companies based in the United States and other restricted territories are excluded from participating in the grants program. The application period for Wave0 grants is open from December 6 to December 22, 2023. The recipients of the grants will be announced in January 2024.
