Introduction of Blockchain-Based Digital Identification Services in a 15 Million-Populated South American City

Argentina’s Capital City to Launch Blockchain-Based Digital Identification Services

Buenos Aires, the capital city of Argentina, is partnering with Self-Sovereign Digital Identity (SSI) protocol QuarkID to introduce a digital identification service using the zkSync Era layer-2 blockchain. The initiative will be rolled out to the city’s 15 million residents in October, allowing them to download the QuarkID wallet and obtain birth and marriage certificates. Additional documents like proof of income and academic verification will be available by November. Buenos Aires aims to expand this service across Argentina and become a pioneer in utilizing blockchain technology for the benefit of its people.

Protecting Privacy with zkSync

In light of privacy concerns surrounding data collection programs, Buenos Aires has chosen zkSync as a solution that prioritizes privacy and safeguards users’ data. By storing personal data on-chain using Ethereum as the backbone, the digital ID program can mitigate identity theft and personal information attacks commonly associated with centralized data storage technologies.

Hot Take: Enhancing Security and Efficiency through Blockchain Technology

Buenos Aires is taking a significant step towards enhancing security and efficiency in its digital identification services by leveraging blockchain technology. By implementing the QuarkID wallet and utilizing zkSync Era, the city aims to provide its residents with a secure and convenient way to access important documents. With this initiative, Buenos Aires sets an example for other countries in Latin America and around the world on how blockchain technology can benefit their citizens. The integration of blockchain-based digital identification services marks a milestone in the region’s adoption of innovative solutions for identity verification.
