Attendants at Yuga Labs’ ApeFest Event Experience Eye Problems
Yuga Labs, the company behind NFT collections like Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), organized a real-life event for its community in Hong Kong. However, some attendees have reported eye problems after the event.
ApeFest Participants Suffer Eye Problems
Crypto trader Adrian Zduńczyk was diagnosed with photokeratitis, a condition that causes severe eye burns from exposure to ultraviolet (UV) lights. He compared it to snow blindness experienced by Mt Everest climbers and urged others to get their eyes checked.
Another community member shared a similar incident that happened six years ago at a party in Hong Kong where people experienced eye injuries and burning due to the installation of disinfecting UV lights instead of stage lights.
BAYC has stated that they are investigating the cause of the eye problems and that less than 1% of event attendees had these symptoms.
Hot Take: NFT Market Struggles Amidst Bear Market
Despite hopes of the bear market ending, the NFT market is still facing challenges. Sales counts are near yearly lows, indicating a struggle in the market. Yuga Labs recently announced workforce reduction due to market conditions.
The CEO, Daniel Alegre, who took over in April 2023, is engaging with the community through various real-life events.
