Block CEO Jack Dorsey criticized Apple CEO Tim Cook for not supporting Bitcoin payments due to the app store’s policies. This comes after Apple removed the Bitcoin-based social app, Damus, from its marketplace. Damus is a decentralized social media app that uses a Bitcoin-based protocol called Nostr for exchanging information and messages. The app includes a tipping feature called “zaps” that allows users to tip each other in Bitcoin over the lightning network. However, this feature violated Apple’s terms of service, which only allowed optional tips and donations, not required payments for digital content. Damus refused to remove the functionality and accepted its imminent removal from the app store. In response, Dorsey defended Damus and questioned why Apple Pay doesn’t support Bitcoin. He also praised Nostr for being a censorship-resistant technology. While Cook hasn’t shown interest in putting Bitcoin on Apple’s balance sheet, he admitted to owning some coins personally.
