Kazakhstan Blocks Coinbase and NYMEX Websites
Recent reports from Kazakhstan indicate that the government has blocked the Coinbase website, along with other financial platforms like NYMEX and Interactive Brokers, for allegedly violating the country’s Digital Assets Law. The Ministry of Culture and Information received a request from the Ministry of Digital Development, asking to block Coinbase due to non-compliance with clause 5 of Article 11 of the law.
The government’s restrictions on financial websites do not apply to the Astana International Financial Center zone. However, NYMEX was banned because it facilitates futures trading in cryptocurrency assets outside of the AIFC’s regulatory domain.
Challenges in Bitcoin Mining Operations
In addition to website bans, bitcoin mining operations in Kazakhstan are also facing challenges. Licensed operators are appealing to the authorities to revise taxation policies affecting their sector. Some industry representatives have warned that the current tax environment may force them to cease their activities in Kazakhstan and Europe.
