Kraken Obtains VASP Registration from Dutch Central Bank for European Expansion

Crypto exchange Kraken has achieved a significant milestone in its European growth strategy by securing a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) registration from the Dutch Central Bank (DNB) in the Netherlands. This registration grants Kraken the opportunity to expand its services in a critical European market and offer its industry-leading products to Dutch clients. Kraken’s acquisition of Dutch crypto broker BCM in October 2023 further strengthened its presence in the Netherlands and allowed BCM’s clients access to Kraken’s wide range of offerings. Kraken’s adherence to strict anti-money laundering and terrorist financing rules has earned it registrations in Spain and Italy, and it is now exploring opportunities in Ireland as well. This accelerated expansion precedes the implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Asset (MiCA) regulatory framework in the EU, creating a favorable environment for crypto asset-related companies.
