Scroll Launches zkEVM Mainnet for Enhanced Ethereum dApp Development
Scroll, an Ethereum layer 2 (L2) network, has introduced its zkEVM mainnet, offering developers faster speeds, lower fees, and reduced latency for building decentralized applications (dApps). The mainnet launch follows extensive testing and security audits spanning over 15 months. The Scroll mainnet provides an EVM-compatible solution that allows seamless migration for existing dApps and developers from Ethereum to Scroll. It supports all EVM opcodes and six precompiles, making it easy to deploy ZK applications on Scroll without complexities. By integrating the Geth codebase, Scroll ensures compatibility with Ethereum while simplifying adoption for users.
Enhanced Security Measures and Successful Testnet Phase
Scroll emphasizes security with measures such as contract audits from OpenZeppelin and Zellic, a well-funded bug bounty program, and an internal security team. During the 15-month testnet phase, over 450,000 smart contracts were deployed on more than 90 million transactions. The testnet also produced over 9 million blocks and 280,000 ZK proofs.
Continuing with Scroll Sepolia Testnet
The Scroll team plans to continue using the Scroll Sepolia testnet as a platform for all future upgrades to the Mainnet. Sepolia has already recorded significant activity with over 900,000 wallet addresses created, more than six million transactions generated, and over 100 projects deployed on Scroll testnets.
Scroll Web3: Driving Decentralization
Founded in 2021 by Ethereum enthusiasts, Scroll aims to enhance zero-knowledge proofs of the proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain. The development team envisions a future where most value transfers occur on L2s deployed on Ethereum. To drive adoption, Scroll zkEVM mainnet focuses on improving the user and developer experience. By enabling developers to build dApps that anchor Web3 in real-life utilities, Scroll aims to attract new users and advance the industry. The next phase for Scroll includes research on a decentralized prover network and decentralized sequencer, with plans for a protocol upgrade to enable forced batches and permissionless publication of batches through base layers in case of sequencer downtime.
Hot Take: Revolutionizing Ethereum dApp Development with zkEVM Mainnet
Scroll’s launch of the zkEVM mainnet marks a significant milestone in Ethereum scalability and efficiency. By providing increased speeds, lower fees, and improved user experiences, Scroll empowers developers to build innovative dApps that can drive mass adoption. The integration of the Geth codebase ensures compatibility with Ethereum, while the emphasis on security measures guarantees a safe environment for developers and users alike. With its successful testnet phase and plans for future upgrades, including a decentralized prover network and sequencer, Scroll is poised to revolutionize Ethereum dApp development and contribute to the broader decentralization movement.
