Efforts to Drive Bitcoin Adoption in Lugano Highlighted at PlanB Conference

The panel, which included Mayor Michele Foletti and Tetragon CEO Pavel Matveev, focused on PlanB’s mission to establish Lugano as a center for Bitcoin and blockchain innovation.

The panel highlighted the progress made over the past two years in educating and onboarding businesses and individuals onto Bitcoin and blockchain technology. This includes organizing educational summits, workshops, and a successful PlanB Summer School that attracted students from 30 different countries.

In addition, Lugano has launched its own Bitcoin-pegged stablecoin called Lugano (LUGA), which is accepted by over 350 merchants in the city. Furthermore, starting from December 1, the city government will begin accepting tax payments in Bitcoin.

$50 Million Startup Funding Allocated for Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Initiatives

The panel also announced a dedicated startup funding of $50 million that will be allocated to various cryptocurrency and blockchain projects. This includes support for Bitcoin core development, Lightning Network development, and a Public Initiatives Fund for local public-oriented projects.

Furthermore, plans were unveiled for a blockchain hub and co-working space in central Lugano, set to open in March 2024. This hub will serve as a centralized location for companies, developers, and entrepreneurs in the cryptocurrency and blockchain space.
