The Criticism of Ordinal Inscriptions in Bitcoin

Luke Dashjr, a Bitcoin Core software developer and CTO of Mummolin, expressed his negative opinion about Ordinal inscriptions, which are elements that can be directly embedded onto the BTC blockchain. He referred to these inscriptions as “spam” and “exploits.” Dashjr has already fixed this issue in Bitcoin Knots, a node software he maintains.

Ocean, a bitcoin mining pool, has also implemented the Knots fix, preventing inscriptions from being included in blocks mined by the pool.

Possible Fix in Upcoming Version of Bitcoin Core

Dashjr suggested the possibility of introducing a similar fix in an upcoming version of Bitcoin Core. However, some members of the Bitcoin community rejected this change. Jameson Lopp, co-founder and CTO of Casa, stated that miners prioritize maximizing profit, while Udi Wertheimer, co-founder of Taproot Wizards, emphasized that Dashjr does not own Bitcoin.

Hot Take: Dashjr Calls for Fixing the “Exploit”

Luke Dashjr, a bitcoin developer and CTO of Mummolin, has criticized Ordinal inscriptions, stating that they exploit a vulnerability in the Bitcoin Core full node software. Dashjr has already fixed this issue in Bitcoin Knots and hinted at the possibility of introducing a similar fix in an upcoming version of Bitcoin Core. However, some in the BTC community have rejected this proposal. Regardless, Dashjr’s focus on addressing this “bug” highlights his dedication to improving the Bitcoin ecosystem.
