Social Media Giant Meta Unveils New AI Models

Meta has announced the introduction of its latest artificial intelligence (AI) models for content editing and generation. The company is rolling out two AI-powered generative models, Emu Video and Emu Edit. Emu Video is designed to generate video clips based on text and image inputs, while Emu Edit focuses on image manipulation with a promise of more precision in editing.

Both models are still in the research stage, but Meta believes they have potential use cases for creators, artists, and animators. The Emu Video model uses a “factorized” approach, allowing it to be responsive to different inputs by generating images conditioned on a text prompt and then generating video conditioned on both the text and the generated image.

On the other hand, Emu Edit allows users to remove or add backgrounds to images, perform color and geometry transformations, as well as local and global editing of images. The goal is to precisely alter only the relevant pixels in response to edit requests.

Largest Dataset Yet for Training

Meta trained Emu Edit using a dataset of 10 million synthesized images, making it the largest dataset of its kind to date. Additionally, the company revealed that its newly released Emu model was trained using 1.1 billion pieces of data, including photos and captions shared by users on Facebook and Instagram.

Regulatory Scrutiny

Despite these advancements, Meta is facing close scrutiny from regulators regarding its AI-based tools. As a result, the technology company has adopted a cautious deployment approach. It recently announced that political campaigns and advertisers would not be allowed to use its AI tools to create ads on Facebook and Instagram.

Hot Take: Meta’s Push for Advanced AI

The introduction of Meta’s new AI models marks a significant leap forward in content editing and generation. By leveraging advanced generative models like Emu Video and Emu Edit, Meta aims to empower creators and artists while also navigating regulatory challenges. With a focus on precision and responsiveness, these AI tools have the potential to revolutionize content creation across social media platforms.
