Gunzilla Games’ Blockchain-Powered Shooter “Off the Grid” Features Neill Blomkamp and Richard K. Morgan
“Off the Grid” is not your typical blockchain game. Gunzilla Games, the studio behind the upcoming multiplayer free-to-play shooter, has renowned director Neill Blomkamp and experienced developer Vlad Korolev leading the project. With 260 full-time employees working on the game and its crypto-powered ecosystem, Gunzilla Games aims to create a unique gaming experience.
The game is a traditional multiplayer shooter that incorporates blockchain technology for its economy and progression. Blomkamp oversees the visuals and creative materials, while author Richard K. Morgan writes narrative scripts for the campaign. Celebrities such as Lights have also contributed to the game by recording motion-capture roles.
Gunzilla Games recently launched the test network for Gunz, its dedicated Avalanche-based blockchain subnet. The Gunz subnet blockchain scanner and testnet version of the Gunz crypto and NFT wallet are now live for iOS and Android users. However, it’s important to note that withdrawals or transfers outside of the game environment are not possible with the Gunz wallet app.
The studio has also released a companion game called Technocore for iOS and Android. Players can find items in Technocore that can be used in Off the Grid and traded as NFTs on Gunzilla’s official marketplace.
Off the Grid will be available on PC via Epic Games Store, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X consoles.
Gunzilla Games’ blockchain has already undergone extensive testing with over 840,000 transactions across 60,000 wallet addresses. The studio plans to release its crypto ecosystem token, Gun, on centralized cryptocurrency exchanges in the future.
The idea for Off the Grid originated years ago while Korolev and co-founder Alex Zoll were developing Warface at Crytek. The team’s vision for Off the Grid includes a 60-hour narrative campaign, a 150-player battle royale experience, over 300 different guns, and 30 different cyberlimbs. The Gunz subnet will support 10,000 NFT validators that can mint in-game assets.
The multiplayer matches in Off the Grid will take place on Teardrop Island, a sci-fi locale with various points of interest. Players can engage in both PVP and PVE battles and have the ability to shoot off and steal each other’s cyberlimbs.
Korolev estimates that the average game match will last 38 minutes for players who make it to the end. To keep players engaged, there will be NPCs and quests spread out across Teardrop Island during battle royale matches.
Gunzilla Games aims to create a world that is never boring for users, catering to experienced players who seek constant interaction. They have their own take on the battle royale mode, which will be revealed in more detail soon.
Overall, “Off the Grid” promises to deliver a unique gaming experience with its blockchain integration, talented team members, and ambitious gameplay features.
