JPMorgan Chase Accused of Terminating Bank Account Over Suspicious Activity Concerns
JPMorgan Chase is facing allegations of abruptly closing and locking down a customer’s bank account due to unfounded suspicions of suspicious activity. According to a Reddit post on the r/Chase forum, a user shares their experience of having their newly opened Chase bank account terminated without any warning or explanation.
The user explains that after setting up their account, they received cash transfers via Zelle from their mother, as well as conducted several other Zelle transactions with friends and family for everyday expenses like Uber rides and food. However, just three days after opening the account, they found themselves completely locked out.
When they attempted to log in, the user was greeted with a message stating that their account was locked due to suspicious activity. Unable to confirm their identity over the phone, the user was informed that they needed to visit a branch in person with two forms of ID. However, despite rescheduling their appointment, they discovered that their account had already been closed.
The user expresses frustration and stress over not realizing that using Zelle would result in their account being shut down for suspected fraud. Additionally, they are uncertain if they will receive any of their money back.
Past Allegations Against JPMorgan Chase
This is not the first time JPMorgan Chase has faced accusations of wrongfully terminating accounts. Last year, Republican attorneys general from 19 states accused the bank of discriminating against its own clients by closing accounts without warning based on religious and political biases.
