Humane Launches Wearable AI Pin
AI developer startup Humane recently launched its first wearable AI pin, confirming the $699 retail price for the complete system. The device was developed over four years and boasts investments from companies like Microsoft, T-Mobile, and others. The AI pin allows users to interact through voice commands or a laser ink display projected onto the user’s hand.
The pin includes an AI-powered music experience in collaboration with TIDAL, photo mode, voice-to-text feature, language interpreter, and a feature called “Catch Me Up” that sorts through emails and messages. Supermodel Naomi Campbell wore the Humane AI pin during a runway show at Paris Fashion Week.
Hummane’s statement emphasizes their commitment to integrating AI into daily experiences. Tech journalist Om Malik believes that AI will play a significant role in managing digital distractions. Companies like StarVR, Actronika, and Ultraleap are also developing wearable technology to enhance online interactions.
Moving towards more complex digital experiences requires AI to augment human capability. Although some may have privacy concerns about wearable AI devices like the Humane AI pin, the company assures users that it is designed to activate only when engaged and has visual indicators when sensors are active.
Hot Take: Privacy Concerns with Wearable AI
Despite claims from Humane about privacy features, tech journalist Om Malik remains skeptical about the device’s potential privacy challenges. He expressed concerns about the nuanced trust indicator on the AI pin and urged caution when using such technology.
