Nym Technologies Announces Decentralized VPN Release for Q1 2024
Nym Technologies, the privacy infrastructure project supported by a16z and Chelsea Manning, has revealed its plan to launch a decentralized virtual private network (VPN) in the first quarter of 2024. This VPN will distribute user traffic across a network of nodes, unlike traditional centralized VPN services that route data through a single server. By decentralizing the VPN, Nym aims to enhance online privacy and make it more difficult for eavesdroppers to monitor user activities.
Jaya Klara Brekke, Chief Strategy Officer at Nym Technologies, stated that the launch of NymVPN aims to meet users’ expectations of real privacy protections in today’s digital age. The company’s approach focuses on preventing leaks of users’ online behavior and payment details, even within the app itself.
A Collaborative Effort with Chelsea Manning
In August 2021, Nym Technologies CEO & Co-Founder Harry Halpin engaged in discussions with Chelsea Manning, known for her involvement in leaking secret documents. Forbes reported that Manning’s insights could assist Nym in addressing vulnerabilities in its design.
