SAGE Labs Surpasses Polygon Network’s Total Transactions on Solana
The browser-based sci-fi game experience, SAGE Labs, on the Solana blockchain from the Star Atlas team, achieved over 2.29 million transactions on Sunday. This surpassed the total transactions on the entire Polygon network by about 256,000 transactions. Since its launch last month, SAGE Labs has recorded over 16 million total transactions. The game is fully on-chain and requires users to sign with their wallet on the Solana blockchain for every interaction, incurring a small gas fee for each transaction.
A Unique Space Management Simulation
SAGE Labs is a 2D space management simulation that focuses on menus, simulated resource management tasks, and data. Unlike the core Star Atlas MMORPG in development, it is not a 3D immersive gaming experience.

On Sunday, SAGE Labs recorded 2,293,210 transactions, while the entire Polygon network had 2,037,330 transactions. This indicates that SAGE Labs accounted for about 15% of all activity on the Solana network on October 8. However, further analysis reveals that the high number of transactions per player is due to the game’s design.
Debating the Spike in Activity
The significant increase in SAGE Labs activity has sparked discussions on social media. Twitter users are debating how a single game can overshadow an entire blockchain ecosystem. It remains unclear whether any of these transactions are from bots or automated accounts.
SAGE Labs stands out from other Web3 games because it operates entirely on-chain. Unlike other blockchain games that offer optional crypto experiences, SAGE Labs requires a Solana-compatible wallet and SOL or ATLAS tokens to play and progress in the game. Developers can also modify the game’s mechanics to create their own experiences using SAGE Labs.
Hot Take: Star Atlas Faces Economic Challenges Amidst Successful Game Launch
While SAGE Labs has seen substantial traffic, Star Atlas has faced economic challenges this year. In July, the company laid off 73% of its staff to adapt to market conditions and reduce overhead costs for continued development.
