Optimism Overtakes Arbitrum in Daily Transactions
Data from Onchain reveals that Optimism, an Ethereum layer-2 platform, surpassed Arbitrum in daily transactions for the first time. On July 25, Optimism recorded 844,290 transactions, while Arbitrum had 630,534 transactions during the same period.
Worldcoin’s Influence on Optimism’s Surge
Worldcoin, led by Sam Altman, released its platform on Optimism, which led to a significant increase in transactions. Despite facing criticism for its distribution method that required users to have their eyes scanned at specific global locations, Worldcoin has gained over 250,000 holders.
Optimism’s User Base and Velodrome’s Impact
Although Optimism leads in transaction count, it still lags behind Arbitrum in terms of daily active wallets, with 51,062 compared to Arbitrum’s 63,893. This indicates that while Optimism has more transactions, its user base is less distributed. Additionally, the launch of Velodrome’s second version, a decentralized exchange (DEX), has contributed to the increased activity on Optimism.
Rise in Total Value Locked and Token Performance
Velodrome’s total value locked (TVL) has risen by 39% in the past month, reaching $258 million according to DefiLlama’s data. Despite the anticipation of sell pressure from a token unlock event, Optimism’s native token (OP) has seen a 4.5% increase in price in the last day.
Hot Take
Optimism’s recent surge in daily transactions, fueled by the release of Worldcoin on its platform and the launch of Velodrome’s new version, demonstrates its potential for growth within the Ethereum ecosystem. While it still needs to improve its user base compared to Arbitrum, Optimism’s increasing activity and token performance indicate a positive trajectory.
