PlayDapp’s native cryptocurrency PLA token, was targeted in a hack that led to a theft of $290 million in digital assets. The incident happened only four days after the initial security breach.
After entering PlayDapp’s infrastructure, the attacker hijacked a private key before minting 200 million PLA tokens worth $36.5 million. The hacker repeated the process minting an additional 1.59 billion PLA tokens worth $253.9 million.
The hacker maintained access to PlayDapp’s systems and made off with a total of $290 million.
Playdapp’s Response to the Attack
PlayDapp paused the PLA smart contract, requested a transaction halt for a snapshot, and involved exchanges in freezing the hacker’s wallets. The team also attempted to contact the hacker directly to offer a reward for the return of stolen assets, without any success.
Unsuccessful Attempts to Communicate with the Attacker
PlayDapp’s team warned the attacker of potential legal involvement and publicly announced a bounty for the return of the stolen assets.
Market Impact and Conclusion
Following the breach, the PLA token price fell by 2.9% to $0.15. The crypto community looks forward to seeing the response from the hackers and the mitigation plan from PlayDapp’s team to recover the stolen tokens.
