Polygon Labs Proposes CDK for Celo’s Layer 2 Transition
Polygon Labs has suggested that the Celo blockchain community use its Chain Development Kit (CDK) for their upcoming Layer 2 transition on Ethereum. This comes after cLabs, Celo’s core team, proposed a transition from Layer 1 to an Ethereum-based Layer 2 using software from OP Labs called OP Stack.
Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon, made the proposal on Celo’s governance forum, emphasizing the ease and modularity of the CDK in transitioning L1s to Ethereum L2s. Polygon’s CDK is an open-source toolset specifically designed for creating Layer 2s using zero-knowledge rollup technology and inheriting Ethereum’s security through ZK proofs.
Notable blockchain enterprises such as Canto, Astar, Immutable, IDEX, and Palm Network have already shown interest in collaborating with Polygon Labs for their Ethereum Layer 2 migration needs. However, there are other options available in the Layer 2 migration landscape, including software tools from teams like Optimism and Arbitrum.
A Community-Driven Decision-Making Process
cLabs is committed to involving the wider community in the decision-making process for Celo’s Layer 2 transition. Rene Reinsberg, co-founder of Celo, expressed the desire to have transparent and communal discussions regarding the various options available.
Polygon CDK vs OP Stack: Exploring Alternatives
Polygon’s CDK and OP Stack from Optimism Labs offer different approaches to Layer 2 designs. While some entities have already embraced OP Stack’s optimistic rollups, Polygon’s CDK presents an intriguing alternative that highlights the potential of zero-knowledge rollups.
