“If you vote for me, on the first day I will commute Ross Ulbricht’s sentence to a reduced sentence. He has already served 11 years, we will bring him home.”
Even though the pardon came a day after Trump’s initial promise, he followed through, granting clemency to Ulbricht on January 21, 2025. This action not only affirms Trump’s commitment to uphold promises made during his campaign, including those related to the crypto sphere, but also indicates a significant shift in how authorities might perceive innovators who challenge the status quo.

Although confined, the Silk Road founder was able to engage on social media, where he shared a link to a petition advocating for his clemency. This petition has amassed a substantial 607,718 signatures.
At that time, Ulbricht expressed hopes for a year filled with freedom and second chances, pondering whether Trump would one day honor his request. That awaited day has, it seems, finally arrived, granting Ulbricht the freedom he has long sought.
