Prosecutors are seeking to detain Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX, over allegations of witness tampering. Bankman-Fried has been under house arrest since December 2022 and is scheduled to go on trial in October. The prosecution is requesting modifications to his bail following the publication of an article in the New York Times, in which Bankman-Fried showed private writings of his former girlfriend, who is expected to testify against him. FTX filed for bankruptcy protection in November and Bankman-Fried was later arrested and extradited to the United States on charges of fraud and misusing customer funds. The judge has accepted the prosecution’s request but has asked for it to be submitted in writing. Bankman-Fried’s lawyers are expected to argue against the request by August 1.
