XRP Supporter John Deaton Considering Senate Challenge Against Elizabeth Warren
John Deaton, an XRP supporter and lawyer, is reportedly contemplating running against Massachusetts Democrat Senator Elizabeth Warren in the upcoming 2024 US Senate elections. The possibility of Deaton joining the senatorial race as a Republican candidate is being discussed with Jim Conroy, campaign manager and political adviser of former Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker. Conroy states that Deaton is seriously considering the run and will make a decision soon. If he proceeds, Deaton would become Warren’s primary challenger.
Warren’s Stance on Cryptocurrency
Elizabeth Warren, who is seeking her third term in office, is known for her critical stance on cryptocurrency. Last year, she introduced the Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act, which aims to expand Bank Secrecy Act requirements to the digital asset industry. This includes implementing know-your-customer (KYC) rules. As a staunch crypto critic, Warren has been a vocal opponent of certain aspects of the industry.
Deaton’s Background and Connection to Massachusetts
While John Deaton has not officially announced his candidacy, he highlights his connections to Massachusetts in a recent social media post. He mentions living in Swansea, Massachusetts for several years and practicing law in the state for 23 years. Deaton has represented XRP holders in Massachusetts against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in the Ripple case and has also worked on behalf of Massachusetts Coinbase customers in another SEC lawsuit. He emphasizes his ties to Massachusetts through various personal and professional connections.
