Revival of Dormant Bitcoin Wallets: Over $14 Million in BTC Transferred from Inactive Addresses

Inactive Bitcoin Holdings Transact $14 Million from 2013 and 2017 Wallets

Last weekend, there was movement in the crypto world as 333.99 BTC, worth $14 million, was transferred after years of dormancy. The first transaction came from a wallet created in 2017, involving a transfer of 125 BTC. Coin tracking website btcparser.com first detected this activity. The transfer was assigned a privacy score of 3 out of 100, indicating a critical level due to identifiable matched addresses. The second transaction occurred in a wallet established in 2013. This wallet moved 115.50 BTC and received a privacy score of 45 out of 100, classified as a low privacy rating.

Final Transaction from Dormant Wallets

The last transaction traced back to 2017, where a wallet that had been inactive for nearly seven years dispersed 93.49 BTC. This wallet received the same privacy score as the 2013 transaction, indicating a low privacy rating due to matched addresses being identified.

January 2024: Quiet Month for Sleeping Bitcoin

So far, January 2024 has seen minimal activity for sleeping bitcoin, particularly from addresses in the 2011 and 2010 period. This month witnessed some movements, including small transactions from 2010 and 2011, as well as a few transactions from 2012. However, the overall activity has been subdued compared to previous months.

Hot Take: Inactive Bitcoin Holdings Stir in the Crypto Market

The recent movement of long-dormant bitcoin wallets has caught the attention of the crypto community. With millions of dollars worth of BTC transacted from wallets that had remained untouched for years, it raises questions about the motives behind these transactions. Additionally, the privacy scores assigned to these transfers serve as a reminder of the potential risks associated with traceable transactions. As dormant bitcoin holdings continue to make waves in the market, it will be interesting to see how these activities impact the broader crypto landscape.
