New Crypto Veteran Falls Victim to Phishing Scam

A user named Cory Doctorow recently shared his experience of being hacked and losing his assets to a phishing scam. The scammer posed as his bank and tricked him into revealing sensitive information, resulting in over $8,000 being stolen from his account.

Ripple CTO David Schwartz responded to Doctorow’s post, suggesting that he believes the scammer’s tactics were too obvious for someone as smart as Cory to fall for. However, it is important to note that scammers are constantly evolving their techniques and creating new ways to deceive their victims.

Phishing Scams Evolving

Jason Yanowitz, founder of Blockworks, also fell victim to a hacking incident recently. Despite having two-factor authentication (2FA) set up on his accounts, the hacker was able to bypass the security measures and gain access to his email and wallets.

Even Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse was targeted by scammers using artificial intelligence software to create deepfake videos impersonating him. He warned XRP customers and crypto enthusiasts about these scams.

Hackers have also exploited temporary addresses and bypassed wallet defenses to steal millions of dollars worth of cryptocurrencies in the past.

Stay Vigilant Against Attacks

Given the ever-changing nature of these scams, it is important for all internet users to remain vigilant and cautious when engaging in online activities. No one can guarantee complete protection against these attacks, so it is crucial to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
