Victims Publicly Associated With Bitcoin
A bitcoin-owning Swedish couple was recently targeted by robbers who seem to focus on prominent bitcoin and crypto personalities. The couple, residing in Stockholm, was physically assaulted, tied up, and threatened with knives by four robbers. One of the victims had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance helicopter. This incident is the third known attack on individuals who have either live-streamed a bitcoin podcast or mentioned bitcoin in a public context. The robbers used similar tactics in another home invasion reported in October.
One social media user suggested that these attacks could be linked to Sweden’s privacy laws, which make residential addresses and tax records public. While acknowledging the rationale behind such laws, they insisted that they have no place in modern society.
‘Duress Wallets’
Reacting to the post, Jameson Lopp, the co-founder and CTO of Casa, emphasized the importance of having a wallet with minimal amounts of crypto or a “duress wallet.” He also advised crypto holders to avoid being known as the “Bitcoin guy.” However, some users argued that a duress wallet may not guarantee safety and could potentially lead to dangerous situations.
