In Izhevsk, Russia, a 23-year-old bitcoin miner was forcefully abducted from his residence as kidnappers demanded a ransom of 15 million rubles ($166,000).

On December 25, the crypto miner was kidnapped and coerced. The kidnappers quickly grabbed him from his home and forced him into a Niva car, a durable vehicle commonly used in Russia.

According to Ren TV, the kidnappers, one of whom was acquainted with the victim, warned of serious consequences if the ransom was not paid promptly.

The captors communicated the ransom demands through the Telegram messaging app, contacting the victim’s brother directly. They used threats of false criminal charges, claiming they would frame the victim as a drug smuggler and involve the police if the payment wasn’t made.

The culprits, known for their history of robbery and extortion, now face severe legal consequences. The Russian judiciary takes these abduction cases seriously, with potential sentences of up to 12 years of incarceration for the perpetrators.
