A Shiba Inu Named Peanut Butter Comes Close to Breaking Gyromite Speedrun Record
A highly-trained shiba inu named Peanut Butter, with the help of his owner, attempted to break the speedrun record for the 1985 Nintendo NES game Gyromite. Using a custom dog-friendly controller, Peanut Butter completed Gyromite’s “B Game” mode in 26 minutes and 24.5 seconds. However, they fell short of beating their previous record of 25 minutes and 29 seconds set last July.
Errors and Near Misses
During the speedrun, Peanut Butter encountered a few errors that led to the loss of some lives. Additionally, an unexpected green monster-like creature appeared in a spot that was unfamiliar to his owner, resulting in a “Game Over” moment near the end of the run. Despite these setbacks, Peanut Butter continued playing and finished with a time that would place him in third position according to Speedrun.com’s records.
Gyromite Gameplay
In Gyromite, players control an old sleepwalking professor who navigates a world filled with blue and red pipes. These pipes need to be strategically moved by pressing and holding corresponding buttons. Peanut Butter’s setup had three buttons, and he was prompted by his owner to press the correct buttons as required.
Peanut Butter’s Preparation and Performance
During previous plays, Peanut Butter occasionally became distracted due to itching. To ensure focus during this speedrun attempt, he received a bath beforehand. The Twitch stream broadcasting the speedrun gained significant viewership throughout the playthrough, with over 77,000 concurrent viewers by the end.
