Apple Alerts iPhone Users in India About Spyware Attack
Apple recently notified some iPhone users in India about a potential spyware attack on their devices. The company stated that these attacks are carried out by malicious actors with significant resources and expertise.
Government and Cybersecurity Concerns
In response to these threats, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (Cert-In) had previously flagged vulnerabilities in Apple’s operating systems for its flagship products like the iPhone and iPad. Specific concerns were raised about vulnerabilities in the Safari web browser, potentially exposing devices to the risk of executing arbitrary code.
Government Action
- The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) did not immediately respond to queries regarding the recent notifications from Apple.
- Earlier in April, Cert-In had highlighted security flaws in Safari web browser versions, urging users to update to more secure versions to mitigate potential risks.

In a previous incident in October 2023, Apple had issued a similar warning to users in multiple countries, including India, regarding a “state-sponsored” attack on their devices.
