LimeWire Enhances AI Tool with Generative Image Platform
LimeWire has acquired BlueWillow, a generative image platform, to improve its artificial intelligence tool for artists. The platform allows LimeWire content creators to generate images from text or existing images. Content creators will receive a 50-70% cut of advertising revenue, while subscribers will get a 10% cut.
LimeWire Pushes to Become Web3 Content Hub
LimeWire’s co-CEOs, Paul and Julian Zehetmayr, believe that the acquisition strengthens their position as supporters of creator-driven content. They see it as a merger of shared vision and innovation that shapes the future of AI-driven content creation.
Image-to-image AI enables users to change the style of an original image. Runway is one such platform that allows users to adjust the level of creativity applied to uploaded images by assigning weights to prompts.
Last month, LimeWire introduced a product that allows creatives to earn royalties from their content. Revenues will be split between content creators and users. This move addresses concerns about large-language models generating new content from song data.
Artists to Get Revenue Boost From UMG-Deezer Deal
In the streaming industry, artists have earned only fractions of a penny per stream. Universal Music Group (UMG) and French platform Deezer recently announced that artists with at least 1,000 streams per month would have twice the weight compared to “non-professional” artists.
If a listener searches for an artist and listens to a song on Deezer, the payout for that artist will be quadrupled. However, AI-generated songs will not qualify for extra streaming revenue. UMG and Google have also been discussing a tool to better compensate artists when their content is used in generative AI music.
Hot Take: The Future of AI-Driven Content Creation
LimeWire’s acquisition of BlueWillow and its efforts to become a Web3 content hub highlight the growing importance of AI-driven content creation. By providing artists with tools to generate revenue and protecting their rights, LimeWire aims to shape the future of creative expression. This move also reflects the industry’s recognition of the need for fair compensation as AI technology continues to transform content creation and consumption.
