High Failure Rates in Web3 Games
A recent analysis by Coingecko reveals that between 2018 and 2023, a staggering 2,127 out of 2,817 Web3 games have either failed or become inactive. This means that three out of four games launched in this period have disappeared. On average, the failure rate for Web3 games was 80.8% per year.
2020: The Year with the Highest Failure Rate
The analysis from Coingecko highlights that the highest failure rates were observed in 2019 (94.3%) and 2020 (94.4%). However, even in 2021, which saw a crypto bull run, 339 out of 738 games failed, resulting in a failure rate of 45.9%.
The Year with the Most Failed Games
According to Coingecko’s findings, the year 2022 had the highest number of dead games, with a total of 742. The failure rate in that year was 107.1%, meaning there were more failed games than those launched (693). In contrast, 2020 had the lowest number of game launches (86) and the fewest number of dead games (81) among the five years under review.
