Overview of Recent Controversies in Catizen’s Token Launch 🚀
This year has seen Catizen navigate turbulent waters leading up to its anticipated token debut on September 20. Players have expressed their dissatisfaction regarding prior delays and recent changes to the airdrop allocations. Concerns were raised after developer Pluto Studio admitted to alterations in the criteria that were not previously communicated, igniting further frustration among the gaming community.
Players Voice Their Concerns 📢
On a recent Saturday, Pluto Studio disclosed the token distribution players should expect when the CATI token goes live on The Open Network. The token is not currently available, and uncertainty looms over its market value at launch.
Numerous players took to Twitter to express their disappointment, noting that their token allocations were significantly lower than anticipated. Overall, the CATI token has a supply cap of 1 billion tokens, with only 305 million expected to be available at launch. Some of those who devoted significant time to the Telegram puzzle game anticipated a more substantial share of the tokens.
One player remarked, “Rank 6,054 out of 36 million players but got only 39 CATI. How can someone call this fair distribution? We need transparency about the token allocation,” highlighting comparisons between time spent playing and the rewards received.
Widespread Discontent Among Players 😡
Many players voiced similar grievances, reporting minimal token distributions after putting in countless hours of gameplay. The hashtag “#catizenscam” quickly gained traction on Twitter, reflecting the escalating discontent.
However, the complaints were not limited to merely the number of tokens given out. Players were also troubled by modifications to the token distribution framework and allocation criteria, which had not been communicated in advance.
Changes to Distribution Models 💭
Pluto Studio had previously assured players that 43% of the total token supply would be set aside for the community. However, the recent adjustment communicated on Friday indicated that only 30% would circulate at the token’s initial launch, prompting many questions among the participants.
The developers clarified that 43% of the supply would still be earmarked for “airdrop and ecosystem” distributions. Importantly, this figure includes 90 million tokens (9% of the full supply) that are designated for Binance customers engaged in a Launchpool rewards initiative announced on the same day.
Out of the total supply, merely 15% (or 150 million tokens) will be allocated for the initial airdrop to players, with additional tokens available as rewards during quarterly play-to-earn seasons.
Adjustments to Criteria Spark Outrage 🔄
Another point of contention arose regarding a change in the guidelines used for airdrop allocations. Initially, the Catizen team stated that the rate at which players earned in-game vKitty would be the main factor determining their stake in the airdrop.
Following the initial revelation of token allocations, it was disclosed that the airdrop design had been modified to reduce the emphasis on vKitty earnings. This shift in criteria occurred after the team noted that many players had exploited the system to artificially enhance their earnings.
In an official statement, Pluto Studio explained, “During the data review for this CATI airdrop, we discovered that numerous bot accounts exploited this public rule… Following the original airdrop criterion would undermine the benefits of genuine players.”
With these changes, the airdrop criteria have shifted to consider “factors that more accurately reflect genuine player activities,” such as on-chain interactions, task completions, and transactions involving fish coin purchases.
Community Reactions and Repercussions 📉
The newly mentioned criteria have led to dissatisfaction among players who invested time rather than finances in the game. Given that some criteria involve monetary transactions—pluto recently highlighted generating approximately $27 million from paying players—many users feel overlooked.
Hot Take: Navigating the Challenges Ahead 🔍
This year, as the launch day approaches, the Catizen team faces the challenge of rebuilding trust within the community. Transparency and open communication about changes going forward will be key to engaging players who feel undervalued. Understanding the balance between genuine player rewards and necessary adjustments for maintaining a level playing field will be crucial in ensuring a successful and inclusive launch.
