Taiwanese Authorities Detain Crypto Exchange Executives Suspected of Committing Fraud, Finds Report


Arrests Made in Cryptocurrency Fraud Case

The police in Taiwan have made arrests in a major cryptocurrency fraud case involving one of the region’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges, ACE Exchange. Two executives, Lin Nan and Pan Nan, are accused of deceiving 100 investors into buying worthless virtual currencies. Lin Nan allegedly used the promise of quick wealth to attract unsuspecting victims, while Pan Nan listed the fake virtual currencies on ACE to make them appear legitimate. The duo operated the scam for three years before being apprehended.

Recovery of Funds and Arrest of Accomplices

In addition to the arrests, 14 other participants in the fraud scheme were apprehended at various locations. A raid on Lin Nan’s residence resulted in the recovery of over $3.6 million in cash and virtual currency. The total value of losses associated with the fraud scheme is estimated to be over $36 million. After interrogation, Lin Nan, Pan Nan, and the other individuals were taken into custody.

Legal Consequences

The individuals involved in the cryptocurrency fraud are expected to face charges under Taiwan’s Criminal Code, Money Laundering Prevention Act, and Banking Act. The police have successfully disrupted the scheme and recovered more than $7 million in both cash and virtual currencies.
