Animoca Brands Becomes Largest Validator on TON Blockchain

Web3 firm Animoca Brands has become the largest validator on The Open Network (TON) blockchain, strengthening TON Foundation’s goal of bringing more game players onto Web3 via Telegram. Animoca Brands will assist the TON Foundation in understanding user engagement through funding, research, and an analytics portal. According to Justin Hyun, the Foundation’s Director of Growth, Animoca’s research and analysis align with TON’s vision.

Seamless Web3 Gaming for Telegram Users

One of TON’s ambitions is to make Web3 gaming seamless for Telegram users. With an 800 million user base, Telegram presents a ripe opportunity for investment in a tool set that allows developers to port any web game into the platform.

“Together, we will infuse Web3 seamlessly into the daily experiences of Telegram users, particularly in gaming, for a global audience to enjoy,” said Hyun.

TON Blockchain Gains Momentum in Web3 Gaming Space

The TON blockchain was initially proposed in a 2018 white paper by the developers of Telegram and Dr. Nikolai Durov. It launched its testnet in January 2019 and has since gained significant traction in the Web3 gaming space. In September, it onboarded the most Web3 games compared to any other chain. The number of Toncoin accounts also increased by 250% in the previous year.

Immersion is Key for Web3 Games

The challenge for Web3 developers is preserving immersion in games. Developers must ensure that gamers don’t have to pause gameplay to conduct blockchain transactions or feel exploited. The goal is for gamers not to distinguish between Web2 and Web3 games. Second-generation Web3 games must prioritize the gaming experience to win over players.
