CEO Paolo Ardoino Issues a Crypto Scam Alert
Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of Tether and Bitfinex, recently addressed the crypto community regarding an ongoing scam affecting various crypto companies. Reports from multiple sources confirm that a critical vendor used by these companies for mailing lists has experienced a security breach.
According to CoinGecko’s COO Bobby Ong, users should remain cautious as fake token launch email blasts may target unsuspecting individuals in the near future.
Despite the security breach, Ong reassured users that CoinGecko’s platforms remain safe and unaffected by the incident. Additionally, he clarified that CoinGecko has no intention of launching a token in the foreseeable future.
This incident is not the first instance of a supply chain email attack targeting the crypto industry. In a similar attack earlier this year, investors lost over $600,000 to phishing emails purportedly from various crypto-related companies. The initial point of compromise in that incident was a member of the exploited vendor’s customer support team.
