The Drake Curse Didn’t Work This Time
Over the weekend, popular YouTuber Logan Paul faced off against MMA fighter Dillon Danis in a highly-anticipated boxing match. The fight was fueled by insults to their respective girlfriends. Paul was the favorite to win, while Danis was the underdog. Rapper Drake, known for his unsuccessful sports bets, wagered $850,000 worth of bitcoin on Paul to win by knockout.
However, despite Paul’s dominance in the match, he couldn’t secure a knockout victory and won by points instead. As a result, Drake lost his bet and missed out on a potential half-million-dollar profit in BTC.
This incident adds to the “Drake curse,” a phenomenon where teams and athletes he supports tend to suffer defeats. Drake has previously lost bets on car racing and football matches as well.
Some of his Previous Fails
In May last year, Drake bet $234,000 worth of BTC on Ferrari’s driver Charles Leclerc to win the Spanish Grand Prix, but Max Verstappen emerged as the winner. He also lost $600,000 worth of bitcoin when he bet on Arsenal to beat Leeds United and FC Barcelona to win against Real Madrid in “El Clasico.”
Earlier this year, Drake lost $400,000 in BTC when Jake Paul lost a fight against Tommy Fury. These failed bets have only strengthened the reputation of the “Drake curse” in the world of sports.
Hot Take: Drake’s Unfortunate Betting Streak Continues
Drake’s latest loss in his string of unsuccessful sports bets further solidifies the notion of the “Drake curse.” Despite his popularity as a musician, it seems that his betting luck is far from favorable. With each failed wager, the curse gains more attention and speculation. It remains to be seen if Drake will break free from this streak or if his bets will continue to disappoint. In the meantime, sports enthusiasts may think twice before placing their bets alongside the rapper.
