The DFINITY Foundation has introduced a GDPR-compliant infrastructure for decentralized applications (dApps) on the Internet Computer blockchain. This infrastructure enables the development of dApps that adhere to the strict regulations outlined in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), making them suitable for sectors such as healthcare and education. Traditional decentralized applications are not compatible with GDPR due to the legal treatment of personal data. However, DFINITY’s solution aims to address this challenge by providing developers with tools to release dApps that offer more traditional and centralized services while protecting personal and financial data according to regulatory practices. The European subnet of the Internet Computer blockchain ensures data privacy and mutability, allowing developers to choose whether data is public or private and supporting GDPR principles such as the right to rectification and erasure. The launch of the European subnet follows three approved proposals submitted by DFINITY, enabling web3 developers to create innovative and compliant decentralized experiences for users in the EU and beyond.
