XRP Adoption Metrics Show Strong Momentum for Ripple’s Cryptocurrency
XRP Ledger’s adoption metrics are indicating a significant growth for Ripple’s cryptocurrency. The market capitalization of XRP has surged by over $12 billion this year, representing a remarkable 73% increase in 2023.
Increasing Number of XRP Wallet Addresses
Furthermore, the number of crypto wallet addresses holding at least 1 XRP ($0.55) has also seen a notable rise. Based on data from Santiment, there are currently 4.82 million addresses that own 1 XRP or more.

Please note that the XRP Ledger operates on a pseudonymous network, allowing individuals to control multiple addresses without any known connections between them. Consequently, it is currently impossible to determine the exact number of XRP owners.
It is worth mentioning that the earliest recorded data dates back to December 6, 2012, with Ripple being the sole owner of a single XRP wallet. This indicates an average annual growth of 438,180 wallets over the past 11 years.
Rapid Growth in Wallet Creation
An interesting observation is that the pace of new wallet creation remained relatively slow until 2018. However, since then, there has been a steady surge in wallet creation that continues to this day, resulting in the current count of 4.82 million XRP addresses.
XRP Population Comparable to Kabul, Afghanistan
If we consider the number of addresses as the XRP population, it is intriguing to note that the number of people who own at least 1 XRP is approximately equivalent to the population of Kabul, the capital city of Afghanistan, which has around 4.6 million inhabitants.
These XRP holders collectively possess a value of approximately $29.48 billion based on the current XRP Ledger capitalization. This amount exceeds Afghanistan’s GDP of $14.79 billion by $15 billion.
However, it is important to recognize that this wealth is concentrated in a smaller group of individuals who own XRP, with a single entity often controlling multiple wallet addresses.
Data from CoinCarp reveals that the top 10 addresses hold more than 11% of the total XRP supply, amounting to approximately $3.24 billion worth of tokens. These top owners include Ripple and various cryptocurrency exchanges.
Hot Take: Ripple’s XRP Gains Impressive Adoption and Concentrated Wealth
Ripple’s XRP has witnessed significant adoption and growth, with its market capitalization increasing by $12 billion in 2023 alone. The number of XRP wallet addresses has also surged, reaching 4.82 million.
Comparing the XRP population to Kabul’s population highlights the scale of ownership, where the value held by XRP owners surpasses Afghanistan’s GDP by $15 billion. However, it should be noted that this concentration of wealth is primarily controlled by a smaller group of individuals and entities.
