Sotheby’s, the renowned auction house, has successfully sold its first individual poem as a Bitcoin Ordinal NFT. The poem, titled “Cord” by Ana Maria Caballero, was part of the Natively Digital collection. It was sold for 0.28 BTC or $11,430. This marks the first time Sotheby’s has sold an individual poem, excluding manuscripts and books.

The Natively Digital collection features various artists, including FAR, XCPinata, Nullish, Rudxane, Jennifer and Kevin McCoy, Popoki, Shroomtoshi, Des Lucréce, and Claudia Hart. One artwork from the collection called “Quantum Cats” was sold for over $250,000.

Michael Bouhanna, Vice President and Head of Digital Art at Sotheby’s, congratulated Ana Maria Caballero on her successful sale. Caballero expressed her excitement about the value of words and poetry being recognized in their pure form without any additional elements attached.

“Cord” is a villanella-style poem consisting of 19 verses and five stanzas with repeated rhymes and lines. Caballero is no stranger to the NFT world and previously launched a digital poetry and NFT gallery called theVerseverse.

Over 58 Million Bitcoin Ordinals NFT Registrations

According to data from Dune Analytics, there have been over 58 million registrations of Bitcoin Ordinals NFTs so far. This represents a significant increase compared to the 9 million registrations recorded in May 2023. The growth of Bitcoin Ordinals NFTs has been evident since its launch in January 2023, with the Ordinal Protocol introducing NFTs on the Bitcoin mainnet.

The ORDI token, associated with Bitcoin Ordinals NFTs, experienced a price increase up to $85.90 on January 3, 2024. Currently, it is valued at $56, still showing a significant rise of 119% compared to the previous year.
