Sony Announces New PlayStation 5 Console Model for the Holiday Season
Sony has revealed that it will be releasing a new version of the PlayStation 5 console just in time for the holiday season. Unlike previous models, this revised console will come in a single, smaller design and will be sold with or without a Blu-ray drive. If desired, the Blu-ray drive can be purchased separately and added later.
The new PlayStation 5 console is over 30% smaller and 24% lighter than the original model. It also features a larger 1TB internal SSD for game and data storage, an upgrade from the original 825GB capacity.
There will be two options available for purchase: a digital version priced at $450 (which is $50 more than the existing digital edition) without a disc drive, and a full-bodied model with a Blu-ray drive priced at $500. The standard model with the disc drive will launch at the same price as the current model, but the digital edition’s price increase means that the base price for a PS5 console is rising.
What sets this new model apart is that there is only one design, and the disc drive is now an attachment. If you purchase the digital-only console, you have the option to buy a disc drive separately for $80 and attach it to play disc-based PS5 games.
The new PlayStation 5 model will be available in November, and once the current supply of previous models sells out, they will be discontinued. Additionally, Sony will be releasing a vertical stand for the slim model for those who prefer to have their console standing securely.
Sony’s Plans for Other Gaming Hardware
In addition to the new PlayStation 5 console, Sony has another gaming hardware release planned for later this year. The PlayStation Portal, a handheld device that can stream games from a PlayStation 5 console, will be available on November 15 for $200.
Hot Take: Sony Introduces Smaller and Lighter PlayStation 5 Model
Sony has unveiled its latest offering in the gaming world with a new PlayStation 5 console model. This revised version boasts a smaller and lighter design, making it more convenient for gamers. The option to purchase the console with or without a Blu-ray drive provides flexibility to users. However, the price increase for the digital edition may disappoint some consumers. Nevertheless, Sony’s commitment to innovation is evident with this attachment-based disc drive system. With the release of the PlayStation Portal handheld device, gamers can expect even more exciting experiences from Sony in the near future.
