The Response of Cardano Community to Criticism on TPS by Researcher

Cardano’s Scaling Efforts and Input Endorsers Protocol

Cardano is actively working on improving its network by addressing challenges related to interoperability, scalability, and throughput. The introduction of various protocols, including the highly anticipated Input Endorsers protocol, aims to enhance the network’s transactions per second (TPS) by up to 20 times. However, renowned crypto researcher Justin Bons has cast doubt on the reported TPS figures, sparking heated debates.

Criticism and Debates within the Cardano Community

Bons criticized Cardano’s scaling efforts, suggesting that while Input Endorsers could potentially increase the network’s speeds to around 2000 TPS, it may not be enough to compete effectively with other blockchains. This led to a backlash from the Cardano community, with some questioning Bons’ credibility and others highlighting Cardano’s focus on Outputs Per Second (OPS) instead of traditional TPS metrics.

Despite the controversy, Bons revisited his calculations and acknowledged that IOHK’s self-reported TPS figures were inaccurate. He recalculated a more realistic estimate of up to 400 TPS for the network. This sparked further discussions within the Cardano community about performance metrics and the relevance of TPS as an industry standard.

The Importance of Performance Metrics

While some dismiss TPS as a simplistic and lazy metric, several developers and influencers argue for its importance. Cardano Yoda shed light on inaccuracies in Bons’ calculations, emphasizing that transaction data on Cardano is divided across different blocks by Input Endorsers, resulting in smaller transaction sizes. This could potentially lead to faster transaction creation and higher TPS figures.

Cardano Yoda suggested that with Input Endorsers, Cardano could achieve speeds of up to 1,500 TPS, which could double if the size of input blocks is increased, reaching speeds of up to 3,000 TPS. Other developers estimated even higher numbers, suggesting that Input Endorsers could propel the network’s TPS speed by 400 times, resulting in a maximum TPS of 30,000.

Hot Take: Cardano’s Ongoing Improvement

Discussions surrounding Cardano’s infrastructure and performance metrics provide valuable insights from the community and critics. While there are differing opinions on the significance of TPS as a metric, Cardano continues to focus on deploying new solutions and protocols to enhance its network and address scalability challenges.
