In an article published by North Korea’s state media, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Jong Il Hyon, an international affairs analyst of the DPRK, argues that the expansion of the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) is a result of the unfair international economic order centered around the US-led international monetary system built upon the dollar. He claims that the US has exploited its dominant position in currency minting and used the dollar as a tool to achieve its political objectives. Jong also highlights how the US has imposed financial sanctions on countries that have displeased it, leading to a reduction in reliance on the US dollar and an increased adoption of national currencies for international trade. He points out that the de-dollarization trend is undermining the US’s position and accelerating the end of the dollar as a key currency. The BRICS economic bloc is seen as a challenge to the existing international order and financial system led by the US and the West.
