January 2024’s Game Releases Worth Playing

January is typically a slow month for new video game releases, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any games worth playing. This month, there are a few big releases that you should keep an eye on.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (Jan. 18)

After over a decade since the last core Prince of Persia game, Ubisoft is bringing back the classic adventure brand with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. This game combines the franchise’s side-scrolling action with time manipulation elements and takes inspiration from Metroid and Castlevania. With a sprawling map and unlockable abilities, the campaign becomes richer as you progress. It will be available on PS5/PS4, Xbox Series X/S and One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

The Last of Us Part II Remastered (Jan. 19)

The Last of Us Part II, released less than four years ago, is getting a remastered version for PS5. Along with visual upgrades, this edition includes cut levels from the original development, additional character costumes, and a new survival mode called “No Return.” It is priced at $50, making it more affordable than other new PS5 games.

Tekken 8 (Jan. 26)

Tekken 8 brings Bandai Namco’s fighting franchise to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. While retaining its familiar vibe with returning characters, Tekken 8 introduces combat elements to reward aggressive players and adds a cinematic touch to the action. Despite being a long-running franchise, Tekken 8 aims to feel fresh and compete with Street Fighter 6.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Jan. 26)

In January, the rebranded Yakuza series expands with Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. This game brings together series leads Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu in an open-world action adventure set in Yokohama and Honolulu City, Hawaii. It is a mainline series entry and a direct sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Existing fans of the series should enjoy this release on PS5/PS4, Xbox Series X/S and One, and PC.
