Ubisoft Joins Wemix’s Blockchain Node Council
Game publisher Ubisoft has partnered with Korean publisher WeMade’s Wemix blockchain node council. Ubisoft is now one of 40 partners running validator nodes for Wemix’s new “Wemix 3.0” network, which operates on an Ethereum-compatible EVM blockchain. The previous blockchain and token have been renamed “Wemix Classic.” The new Wemix blockchain uses a proof-of-stake authority consensus algorithm and requires nodes to validate transactions. Ubisoft will join as the 26th node partner, known as a “Wonder.” This move follows Ubisoft’s previous ventures into blockchain gaming, such as adding NFTs to its games and becoming a node operator for other blockchains.
Ubisoft’s Expanding Presence in the Blockchain Industry
Ubisoft has been actively exploring the crypto industry, including its investment in blockchain gaming. In addition to joining Wemix’s node council, Ubisoft has become a node operator for the Hedera and Cronos blockchains. It has also teased its upcoming blockchain game, Champions Tactics, and launched a successful NFT mint for the game. Alongside its involvement in blockchain technology, Ubisoft is also exploring AI-generated video game dialogue. Despite facing backlash from gamers for embracing crypto tech, Ubisoft remains committed to expanding its presence in the blockchain space.
Hot Take: Ubisoft Embraces Blockchain Gaming
As one of the early adopters among Western publishers in the blockchain gaming industry, Ubisoft continues to make significant strides in this space. Its partnership with Wemix’s blockchain node council demonstrates its commitment to exploring and investing in crypto technology. With its history of adding NFTs to games and becoming a node operator for various blockchains, Ubisoft is positioning itself as a key player in the intersection of gaming and blockchain. While facing criticism from some gamers, Ubisoft’s foray into the crypto industry showcases its willingness to embrace new technologies and innovate within the gaming landscape.
