A new exhibition in London called GEN/GEN: Generative Generations is showcasing the history of generative art and its connection to the rising stars of the NFT scene. The exhibition at Mayfair’s Gazelli Art House features works from generative art pioneer Harold Cohen, as well as contemporary artists who draw inspiration from Cohen’s work. The goal of the exhibition is to highlight the shared vocabulary and similarities between the two generations of artists. Rather than displaying the artworks in a chronological timeline, they are arranged in a way that showcases the connections between them. The exhibition also includes NFTs of several works available for purchase through Gazell.io.
The recent boom in generative art has been fueled by the emergence of NFTs, with many artists showcasing their work on platforms like Art Blocks. Gazelli Art House has streamlined the NFT onboarding process for legacy art collectors through its partnership with Verisart. The gallery believes that physical galleries will open their own digital storefronts as the NFT market matures, allowing them to have more control over the display and sale of artworks. Despite the recent collapse in NFT prices, Gazelli remains optimistic about the future of generative art and sees it as an important part of art history. The gallery is excited about the possibilities of new technologies that can turn artworks into “living entities.”
