Unleashing Killer Whales and democratizing web3: an interview with Hello Labs’ CEO, Sander Görtjes

The Rise of Killer Whales: Crypto’s Version of Shark Tank

If you’re familiar with the popular television show Shark Tank, then you’ll be interested to know that the crypto industry now has its own version called Killer Whales. Produced by Hello Labs, this web3 series showcases crypto and NFT entrepreneurs and their stories behind their concepts. Hello Labs aims to demystify web3 and expose crypto to the masses through entertainment.

In an interview with crypto.news, Sander Görtjes, CEO of Hello Labs, explained how the idea for Killer Whales came about. The show highlights the best projects in the crypto space and allows them to pitch their ideas to a group of key opinion leaders for feedback. The goal is to simplify crypto and web3 using entertainment as a medium.

A Show Focused on Entertainment and Education

Killer Whales differs from Shark Tank in that it doesn’t involve investments. The focus is on providing unbiased stories of projects and educating viewers about web3 technology. The first season of Killer Whales consists of five episodes, each centered around a specific web3 sector.

The judges on Killer Whales are carefully selected based on their experience and expertise in the crypto ecosystem. They provide honest opinions on the projects showcased on the show. Working with these personalities was a smooth process due to their professionalism and shared goal of promoting the crypto space.

A Two-Year Production Journey

The production of Killer Whales took about two years, starting with partnerships formed in March 2022 and culminating in its launch in February 2024. Hello Labs secured deals with various crypto entities to generate revenue through sponsorships and distribution income.

Projects featured on Killer Whales can expect support and potential interaction from partners and associated brands after the show. Hello Labs sees the show as a way to raise awareness for web3 solutions and plans to continue producing seasons of Killer Whales in the future.

The Future of Hello Labs and Hello TV

Hello Labs envisions itself as a multi-season IP creator, with plans to explore gaming projects in addition to television shows. While the show initially streams on Hello TV, Hello Labs aims to target mainstream platforms for wider reach. However, there are currently no announcements regarding opening the platform to user-generated content.

As for HELLO token holders, Hello Labs has plans to increase the utility of the token but does not engage in airdrops or staking due to regulatory considerations. In terms of competitors, Hello Labs sees itself as unique, straddling the line between web2 and web3 entertainment categories.

The Dream Crossover: Shark Tank Meets Killer Whales

While it remains a dream for now, Hello Labs hopes that mainstream celebrities like Mark Cuban and Kevin O’Leary will take an interest in Killer Whales and participate in the show. As the “Shark Tank of web3,” Killer Whales aims to set a standard for the entertainment category in the crypto industry.
