Unveiling Ethereum Foundation's Association with Filecoin ICO: An In-depth On-chain Investigation

Digging Into the Filecoin ICO

Filecoin is a popular cryptocurrency with a thriving community, but recent investigations have raised questions about its origins and initial coin offering (ICO). @BoringSleuth, an on-chain investigator known for his theories about crypto projects, has turned his attention to Filecoin.

The investigation began by mapping out wallets and analyzing funding transactions. @BoringSleuth noticed a trend where wallets would send Ethereum (ETH) to the Filecoin ICO wallet with long decimal numbers. In total, the investigator identified 1,255 transactions with these long decimal numbers.

Interestingly, 296 wallets ended their ETH transactions with 937, while 228 wallets ended with 967. Additionally, 179 wallets ended with 697 and 111 ended in 696. The remaining 106 transactions had unique last three digits but the same long decimal numbers.

Suspicions of Manipulation

@BoringSleuth alleges that this was an attempt by the founders and venture capitalists (VCs) to create the appearance of high interest in the ICO. By using specific codes in transaction endings, they could group together who sent what. The investigator implicates Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, the Ethereum Foundation, CCP Group, Cumberland, and Prometheum in this alleged manipulation.

@BoringSleuth crosschecked the grouped wallets with the ‘Truth Labs Database of Networks and Wallets’ to assign ownership to different entities.
